Nossa última seleção para o ano de 2009 e o número 6 da nossa lista é o livro Fragrances of the World 2009 - Michael Edwards.
This year Michael Edwards is celebrating 25 years since he wrote his first perfume guide in 1984 (with 323 perfume reviews) with a special new launch: a book with 6,500 fragrances reviewed, with 800 new releases since 2007 book.
Edward won the 2004 Fifi Awards for Technological Breakthrough of the Year for launching the on line version of his book.
Michael Edwards changed the way fragrances were sold by developing a new way of classifying scents, into 12 families.
In 2005 he launched a book with prestige, niche, limited edition, bridge, and mass market fragrances, family by family. It is the only guide to match feminine and masculine fragrances, making it easy to suggest gifts. It was a must-have for fragrance and beauty professionals, the guidebook lists fragrances from 596 houses.
Edwards's previous book, the glossy, in-depth historical guide Perfume Legends: French Feminine Fragrances was developed to demonstrate his devotion for and passion to the perfume industry.
He is a visionary: He was among the first, to identify the need to simplify the business of selling and buying fragrance. With the market literally drowning in perfume launches - more than 1800 new ones have appeared since 2000 - he recognized that the only truly effective way to cut through the growing confusion, and help guide customers to the right fragrance choices was to classify perfumes by the way they smell. The idea was simple and effective: people tend to select most of the fragrances they wear from just one or two of the twelve fragrance families. Armed with this guide, it is easy to suggest other fragrances to try from the families that hold the most appeal. Selling fragrances by their scent - as well as House affiliation and seductive imagery - has been a dazzling success. More and more retailers are turning to Fragrances of the World and its online counterpart to boost flagging sales at the perfume counters. (His classification system was introduced to Sephora in the US showcasing the Fragrance Finder for Sephora.)

I can easily second the reccomendation for this book, its truly a gem and a fine resource of information. It is recommended as a reference book by the perfume school at which I am studying now, so everyone can be sure it is of the highest quality. There is also a fun game you can play on the authors website where it will suggest three new perfumes for you to try based on entering a perfume you currently wear. Very cool!
