WOOD & WATER

The first whiff of Bois D'Iris EDP brings a woody note sprinkled with salty sea water. A fantastic reality created by the perfumer. Wet woods. A mixture of wetness, coldness and transparency. A touch of myrrh and its woody, balmy and creamy.
As the sun warms these woods drifting on the shores, the saltness evaporates, and the dream of seashores during a cold winter fades away. The notes become drier.
From one reality to another, we jump into a child's backpack to explore what I call "The Faber Castell Note". The woody delight of a pencil-like note. Dry, strong, warm, creamy but not mellow. As if the pencil case was hidden under a wool sweater (the kind that brings a warm sensation, very thick, very warm, heating the body in a cold day.)

FABER CASTELL - pencil case

What is brilliant about this perfume is the combination of effects: Cold, metallic notes of iris and salty wetness, softened by warm mellow notes of amber, caramel, burned sugar and myrrh. If NUDE is/was a trend for clothing and beauty in 2009/2010, nothing is more NUDE than this fragrance! Heavy, deep notes of burned caramel, woods, incense and vetiver combined with the lightness of water, airy salty breeze and transparency. The tenderness of mellow lactone, milky fragrances of babies being held by their mommies, with the sexiness and lush of amber y-musk y caramels.
The development of this perfume is slow and long lasting. It gives you the chance to fall in love for it, over and over again.
And the rose... it takes time to blossom and explode, but when it does...it is amazingly feminine and modern. Wrapped in smokey frankincense, burned woods and toffee milky sugars.

CRÈME BRÛLÉE

It is a gourmet fragrance that you feel like eating, a crème brûlée per say. Velvety and crispy, transparent and dense... so many facets, so many combinations...

OFURO

Since the lasts few days is very could in this ugly gray city, I could not help it to have my very own dream while smelling this fragrance:

Hot water in a fine cedar wood Ofuro just waiting for me to come in, and make my freezing body warm... A Japanese ritual of bathing, with rose petals and incense burning. If Bois D'Iris could be transformed in a picture, I would definitely say it is a wet skin, in the cedar Ofuro, with petals of rose, incense burning and French desserts by the tub!
It is amazing fragrance that brings comfort, a sense of well being, femininity and happiness.
Once you wear this perfume, you feel like those silly movie stars in a romantic comedy of the 50's. The part when they start to sing happily ever after...

YOU WILL FIND ALL VAN CLEEF & ARPELS' FRAGRANCES OF COLLECTION EXTRAORDINAIRE AT ESSENZA NOBILE. (CLICK ON THE NAME TO CHECK PRICES)

If you liked this fragrance, you will probably wish to try: Bois D'Iris by The Different Company, Feminité de Bois by Serge Lutens, Encre Noir pour Elle by Lalique and Bois de Farine by L'Artisan Parfumeur.

Also, I must say that this fragrance is an olfactory journey to Proenza Schouler Collection - Fall 2009. The Heavy & the Light, The Warm & the Cold, The Metallic & the Creamy...it is all there. And I just loved this collection so much!!!
