REVLON ENAMEL SCENTED NAIL

Spray Leave In Jardin Délices Rosas
  L'Occitane

Aqua Allegoria Jasminora by Guerlain - fragrance review

The Aqua Allegoria Collection was introduced by Guerlain in 1999, to offer simple formulas that reflect different moods and are inspired by Nature. The latest launch is Jasminora -  a floral, spinning around a fresh delicate Jasmine note. I confess that the only Aqua Allegoria I really liked so far from all Aquas, was Pamplemousse (Grapefruit). But that changed yesterday when I tried Jasminora, thanks to a friend who gave me a tiny sample.

Rating:✭✭✭✭
Brand: Guerlain
Origin: France
Launch: 2011
Perfumer: Thierry Wasser
Gender: FEM
Olfactive Family: Floral Jasmine
Type: EDT - Special collection Guerlain
Olfactive Notes: Bergamot, jasmine of Calabria, freesia, cyclamen, galbanum, muguet,    musks and amber-y notes.
Description by the Brand: " The spirit of jasmine and a note of freesias. A stroll at twilight. Be enraptured by the sensual aromas of jasmine. And fall under their spell".
Description by + Q Perfume Blog: FEMININE, DELICATE, NYMPH BEAUTY, HONYED
Sillage: One has to come closer to really feel that beauty!
Fixation: Medium/said by the brand to be concentrated
When to wear: Always you feel like it
Range: 125ml EDT
Where to find: Guerlain, Sack's, Sephora etc...
Could pair with: L'Abeille's honeyed notes

How would delicate nymphs smell like? Their skin perhaps would have the smell of amber. The lips, the smell of honey and cyclamens. The hair, the smell of jasmine. The breath, the smell of lilies.
In a nutshell, the smell of Aqua Allegoria Jasminora!
Last year I had the pleasure to visit Takasago for one entire day, and one of the most beautiful memories I have from that day was to open a bottle of cyclamen oil. So delicate, so feminine, so transparent! It is my favorite flower and the national flower of Israel.

Jasminora starts slightly green-y and flowery at the same time. Not the greens of the fragrances I mentioned in my last article, but the green of a flower pedicel (the part of the plant that holds the flower). It has a slightly lemony undertone, typical of crushed green parts of plants, like when you crush lemon blossoms pedicels in the hand.
Its jasmine is not opulent or hypnotic, nor sensual. It is a naive jasmine, with a honeyed nectar that makes it very natural. It is a Guerlain signature fragrance, signed with watercolors, as if every note was tuned down, watered to be delicate. The combination of muguets, freesias, amber and musk might bring you the idea of a heavy powerful perfume, but Guerlain mastered it to be like a veil, like a quick tickle to make you smile.
If Nymphs were for the Greeks, personifications of Nature's activities, I am positive Guerlain designed this fragrance for us to feel like flowers, therefore Nymphs.

One more thing to add - Guerlain mastered to do what François Demarchy did not with Escale aux Marquises! Bravo!!!

Chanel Nº19 Poudré - fragrance review

It is not a secret that I love powdery fragrances and that iris is my favorite note. That said, is it possible not to love the newest Chanel launch?
Chanel Nº19 Poudré is a flanker of the original fragrance launched by the brand in the 70's. The modern version is a part of Les Exclusifs de Chanel Jersey with notes of neroli, galbanum, jasmine, iris, white musk, vetiver and tonka beans. It is supposed to be another green-ish like many recent launches in the market, and in fact it is green for the first 05 seconds. A combination of green notes of galbanum with a mineral, gray, wet cement note that reminds me of Untitled by Margiela
The iris notes are fantastic, brilliant, amazing. Chanel's at its prime quality standards.
That said, the development of the fragrance made me wonder... first of all I have seen this before in Bois des Îles and in Chanel Nº5 Eau Premiere. It is like the Maison is taking fraction of their perfumes and developing new others with a slight difference, a new detail, a new dose, or emphasis in  one particular note.
To be honest, if I have to choose between Chanel 19 Poudré and Premiere - I stick with Premiere. Secondly, in my opinion what is the real annoying facet of this fragrance is the creaminess of it. I hated it in Narciso Essence for women, I hated it here. This white musk creamy cleanness is just not for me.
Than I remembered that Ninfeo Mio by Annick Goutal was also a fragrance that annoyed me very much. I recall calling it a vanilla pudding that rolled of freshly cut grass. Chanel Nº19 Poudré is not a vanilla pudding, but a grey pudding that rolled on grass, and than rolled on avon facial cream.
I found out when wearing in Margiela that I don't like this green-ish bitter green thing of that made me dislike the fragrance at one point. Same thing found in Prada's Infusion d'Iris
I guess the problem with all these fragrances mentioned is in fact the green note, combined with creamy or pudding like scents. I just don't like it! But Chanel made my nose spin to the other side even more, by combining these two and adding the creamy white musk. That my friends made me run to the bathroom and wash the arm.
So what is not to like, I ask again...hum...almost everything, besides the iris. The lack of powdery accent promised in the name...
And I thought Chance Eau Tendre and Bleu were the only mistakes Chanel ever did...

Fantastic Man By Byredo for Mad Men impeccable grooming

Don't you just love to watch Mad Men? I am totally addicted! I think it is because I loved to watch Bewitched reruns. I loved to see Larry and Steven work at the advertising company...
Than it came Mad Men! A TV series about a creative director in an advertising company in NYC during the sixties. His life at work, off work, and all the styling and the social values of that era... My kind of show!
The main message of the series is that, no matter who dirty, how filthy you are, a cheater, a drunk, a total asshole...if you are impeccably dressed and groomed, you are the man! Shirt pressed, sleek tailored suit, trimmed nails, perfect shaving, perfect hair and most of all... smelling good. Of course in the TV series they drink and smoke a lot, so probably the truth is that the men don't really smell that good...(unless you like alcoholic -tabac breath), but this was very common in the past. People smoked a lot. It was part of the charm, just like the hats and shirt cuffs.

Don Draper in his best grooming

Don Draper is the prince of Madison Avenue. The man with the shinning shoes, a martini on one hand, and the other on some beautiful secretary's boobs... what fragrance suits him the best? As I watch Mad Men I had two ideas for fragrances. The ones from the 60's of course: Habit Rouge, Eau Sauvage by Dior, Y by YSL, Old Spice, Aqua Velva, Brut, Aramis, etc... and a more contemporary one - for the fact that the TV series is from this decade and not in the sixties, I think Don could wear a fragrance that is a cologne, fresh and clean, but more updated without loosing personality.

So I gave it some thought and came up with FANTASTIC MAN BY BYREDO/aka SUNDAY COLOGNE nowadays. The super Mad Men fragrance!!! Fantastic man for Mad men!
Byredo's founder, Mr. Ben Gorham, teamed up with Jop Van Bennekom and Gert Jonkers of Fantastic Man Magazine (Dutch styling for gentlemen editions) to develop a fragrance that would capture the both essence of the magazine and the brand, to revisit a classic perfume - the cologne. Three men deciding who to capture the essence of the classic colognes.

Rate: ✭✭✭✭
Price: $$$
Brand: BYREDO
Att.: fragrance was renamed to Sunday Cologne
Origin: Sweden
Type: luxurious niche
Launch: 2009 - Paris/2011 as Sunday Cologne
Gender: Masculine
Range: 100 and 50ml EDC plus body line.
O. Family: woody aromatic
Olfactive Notes: bergamot, star anise, cardamom, geranium, incense, lavender, vetiver, patchouli, moss.
Description by the brand: "The classic cologne has hit home with gentlemen everywhere, polite and poised like a sharp side of Gornik & Drucker taper cut".
Description by + Q Perfume Blog: MAD MEN STYLE, FRESH, ELEGANT, CLEAN
When to wear: Anytime you want to have a fresh, clean, sleek fragrance.
Silage: subtle
Fixation: Great for a cologne!
Could pair with: Absolute pour le Matin by FK
Where to buy: Byredo, Colette, ALZD, Essenza Nobile.

Most people think Byredo is ridiculously overpriced and overestimated. I might agree with that, but truth is, with Baudelaire, Gypsy Water and Sunday Cologne the brand conquered my heart. Every time my husband wears any of them I can't stop smelling him, and smile while doing it. My husband is very thankful :-) to Byredo PRs by the way.
My problem with men's cologne is the cheap notes I constantly find and complain about it. I call them "O Boticário notes" (my sincere apologies to O Boticário brand, but I have to be honest here, and your fragrances have this annoying cheap masculine notes that I can't stand it).
At the very first whiff Sunday Cologne shouts FRESHNESS loud and clear. It is elegant, slightly smokey ad flowery, but definitely very sleek.
Anise seeds are surprisingly harmonious and not sweet. It contains a happiness implied. An aura of freshness that you get only early in the morning were drew is still on the leafs, people are taking showers to go to work, flowers are opening, sidewalks are being washed, etc...
As the scent evolutes, heavier notes take pick. Incense, vetiver and lavender are brilliantly blended and bring the masculine naughtier side of Mr. Don Draper. The saltiness found in this fragrance can also bring images of dry martinis...being drunk during fantastic happy hours, after nailing one more advertising client. It is a soft subtle saltiness, just a salty breeze sort of speak.
Truth is, Sunday Cologne sounds like something you would wear to go to church... I prefer the name Fantastic Man - because the fragrance is really designed to make man smell fantastic. But probably the purpose of relating to the magazine was over..so they came up with this funny name. I think they should have consulted Sterling Cooper. They would probably come up with a better name than that!
It is sophisticated, definitely goes well with a new suit baring its ankles. In fact goes well with any suit, or no suit at all!! Or starting with a suit, than slightly removing it, the shirt, the pants....and so on...LOL!
Careful guys when wearing this to work, you might not get there at all!!!
