Perfume & Color matching/Combinando Perfumes & Cores

Sun flowers - Van Gogh
According to COLOSTROLOGY, (a website that determines your perfect color chosen by your birthday), my color is Firecracker (Pantone 16-1452). It means that I am described as interesting, intelligent and seductive. I also have a tremendous amount of charm and wit, and people gravitate me.The color of my month is Sun Royal and it resonates with power and greatness. I loved my description and I hope it is correct!
The mind behind Colostrology is Michele Bernhardt, a practitioner of intuitive arts, healer, astrologer and metaphysician.
According to her, there are colors that gives us strength and colors that weaken us. Also according to her website, the color of our birth is the one reflecting best our personality.
The site gives a color palette to each month of the year and a description of the colors. Than you choose the date of your birthday and you will get a description that matches your personality, according to the color of that day, and what benefits you can get from meditating, wearing or being around your birthday color.
A similar work is offered by perfumer Mark Buxton.
He designed a collection of 7 conceptual fragrances disclosing the personality through color code.
Each fragrance combines a color, to a mood and a character.
he offers a palette of 14 color, which you choose one you like the most and he gives you a fragrance that suits you the best.
I chose the one close to the color of my birthday (according to Colostrology) and the fragrance chosen my Burton was:
English Breakfast - EDP
"It's 7 in the morning. An English man in Japan sitting in the Shinkansen is going to Kyoto. What does he do at this time? He opens his sushi/sashimi box for breakfast."
Top notes: bergamot, orange, pepper, ginger, coriander, geranium, galbanum
Heart notes: calendula, jasmine, rosewood, gardenia
Base notes: patchouli, vetiver, labdanum, fir, cedarwood, benzoin
So, the reference is Japan!!!! My favorite country!!!! Cultural contrast: England and Japan - European X Oriental.
I loved all the accords, specially the fact that it has gardenia - I love this flower!
The other fragrances presented in his line were:
Wood and Absinth- is based on the contrast of 2 different natural notes, wormwood and vetiver, and as he describes "a love and hate" relationship.
Top notes are: citrus, orange, clary sage, anise; heart notes are: jasmine, rosewood; base notes are: wood and vetiver.
Black Angel- I would call it a Sting kind of perfume.
Top notes are: citrus, bergamot, orange, mandarin, rosemary, ginger, cardamom, coriander; heart notes are: nutmeg, jasmine, lily of the valley, orris; base notes are: styrax, guaiac, patchouli.
Hot Leather- inspired by an evening at the Moulin Rouge.
Top notes are: pepper, geranium, camomile; heart note is: jasmine; base notes are: styrax, patchouli, cistus, cedarwood.
Around Midnight- a jam jazz section in Paris.
Top notes: pepper, geranium, camomile; heart note is: jasmine; base notes: styrax, patchouli, cistus, cedarwood.
Sounds and Visions- sounds like a gathering of boyscouts! Dancing in a cedar forest in Israel, on a warm and sunny day.
Top notes: bergamot, mandarin, pepper, ginger, cardamom; heart notes: nutmeg, rose, jasmine, rosewood.
Nameless is inspired by a song by Otis Redding "Sittin' on the top of the bay" (my reference).
Top notes: mandarin, cardamom, orange flower, lavender; heart notes: cinnamon, coffee, clove, jasmine; base notes: amber, cistus, wood, guaiac, patchouli, cedarwood, benzoin.
According to his autobiography, Mark Buxton is One of the sharpest "noses" ever. Author of fragrances for Givenchy, Versace, Paco Rabanne, Burberry, Salvador Dali, Cartier, Chopard, Ferre. One of the brilliant pages of his perfumer career concerns his companionship of many years with Comme des Garcons. Mark's personal testament has always been "Simplicity is the ultimate degree of luxury". Ok he is one of my team, when less is more!
So let's play the game:
1.Check your color at Colostrology.
2. Match your Mark Buxton fragrance.
3. Post me a comment here.
4. Let me know what is your color, what if your fragrance!
5. Tell me if it matched your personality.
6. Send this link to a friend.
English Breakfast EDP (Café da Manhã Inglês).
Adorei o acorde floral.
Notas olfativas: citrus, bergamota, laranja, mandarina, alecrim, gengibre, cardamomo, coentro, noz moscada, jasmim, lírio do vale, orris, styrax, madeira guaiac e patchouli.
Hot Leather (Couro Quente)- inspirada no cabaré francês Moulin Rouge.
Notas olfativas: pimenta, gerânio, camomila, jasmim, styrax, patchouli, cistus e cedro.
Notas olfativas: pimenta, gerânio, camomila, jasmim, styrax, patchouli, cistus e cedro.
Notas olfativas: bergamota, mandarina, pimenta, gengibre, cardamomo, noz moscada, rosa, jasmim e pau-rosa.
Nameless (Sem Nome)- fragrância que deve ter tido como inspiração a música de Otis Redding "Sittin' on the top of the bay" (minha referência).
Aqui vão as regras:

+Q perfume has been Tagged!/J'ai été taggée!/Eu fui etiquetada!

One of the most wonderful things about the blogosphere is that you are able to share incredible experiences, get to know interesting people and share passions. So these amazing perfume lovers, sharing their points of view, sharing their knowledge about a subject that can be expressed in endless ways, are finally connecting to one another. Comparing ideas, experiences, connecting with a higher goal (to spread perfume culture globally) and most of all (and not less important), having fun! My passion for perfumes started at the age of 5-6, when I was grounded by my mom, for perfuming all my dolls and stuffed animal with her very expensive Joy, by Jean Patou. :-) So my passion comes from my childhood. After finding out that, there were people in the internet actually smelling and reviewing and writing about it, I found a total different meaning to my life, and things are going to another direction. I began to build a project of a site (www.maisqueperfume.com) and also this blog, to give a dynamic movement to it. To listen to what others feel about what I was discussing/doing. The rewarding is huge and it came faster than I thought. i belong to this marvelous group of people that are committed to fulfill their passion: write and express themselves thought fragrance. I was tagged by Poivrebleu so here are the following rules to the Tagging Game: First, the rules in English: 1. Link to the person who tagged you (Coucou Poivrebleu!) 2. Post the rules on your blog 3. Write six random things about yourself 4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them 5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog 6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up. In French: 1. I added one rule to the game: Describe or say something about the person/blog that tagged you! PoivreBleu is a French/English Blog that has a lot in common with my Blog: it is a blog about perfume. It deals with all the ways you can find perfume. It has the principal target to give a great vision of the perfume world, with personal analysis on perfumes, reviews, critics, explanations on the fabrication and so on. So it has what mine has, with the owner's perspective - a sensible, complete and interesting way to express life through perfume (Merci Poivrebleu!) 06 ramdom things about me: Really? Ok.... Ecrire 6 choses vous concernant: Ulahlah! 01. I am obsessed about Japan. I am afraid to travel to Tokyo and never want to come back home. That is why you will always find references in my blog. 02. I speak one of the most ancient languages of all times - Hebrew. I feel very special for speaking to God in his own tongue. I know other languages, but Hebrew is my favorite. Of course French is the most beautiful one, but Hebrew is a way to connect to the higher spheres.... 03. Some people think I look like Jodie Foster, a more feminine version of her.I don't share this opinion. 04. David Bowie was my first love :-) I am crazy about him till today, but the posters are no longer on the wall (hahahahah!). I am very fond of Classic music, mostly Chopin and Mozart, Bossa Nova, electronic of all sorts and Flamenco. I am crazy about Flamenco! 05. I was an International Corporate lawyer till last year. I was. 06. I am a terrific cook, and Moroccan food is my favorite. Moroccan men too! hahahahaha I am Shitrit, rings a bell? I have now to tag 06 other bloggers, let's see....some were already tagged by others... Tagger 6 autres personnes à la fin du billet, et faire le lien sur leurs blogs: I would like to have the honor of tagging Mr. Andy Tauer, perfumer and one of the most gentle creatures you will meet in Europe. I would also like to tag the incredible, one of his kind Octavian Coifan, of 1000 fragrances, although he is so serious that I hardly believe he will continue the chain, but still, he is my favorite above all!! He knows EVERYTHING there is to know about fragrances and specially history and chemistry. I tag also Marlen Harisson , the author and owner of Perfume Critic, the most serious place for a fragrance to be. Marina from perfume-smellin' things, Perfume posse and Peredepierre (Mark, Thomas and Dane). So dearest bloggers, I am today sending all of you, a huge tag, perfumed with your most beloved fragrance.

Dancing with sexy Vetiver/Dançando com Sexy Vetiver

Andy Tauer got back from his trip to the US, with a smile on his face and apparently, with a full stomack. check his blog!

The new fragrance, Vetiver Dance, was launched successfully, and we want to congratulate him.
To celebrate his success I decide to reveal the vetiver dream I had when I first got my sample, a couple of months ago, and review the scent.
Dancing with Vetiver - a dream
She was standing near the window. Her beautiful yellow dress, glowing from the reflex of the sun on her the silky fabric. She looked to the horizon and stared at the lilies so neatly planted across the garden. She touched the grapefruits in a basket. She felt the oily skin, the citrus whiff.
As the sun moved away, she felt a breeze coming in.
She could sense he was approaching her slowly.
Rose was excited but didn't want to show. She didn't move.
From behind he gave her a kiss on the right shoulder, and whispered in her ear.
She felt the heat coming up, from her legs to the face, like pepper. Spicy heat.
He embraced her with a kiss. a humid, tasty kiss.
Vetiver invited her gently, to dance.
As she smiled at him, he took her hand and put his arms around her body.
As they danced across the ballroom, her heels scratched the cedar wood from the floor.
She touched his face and passed her fingers through his thick dark black hair.
It smelled sweet. Ambar and tonka scent.
She said she loved him...
He gave her a deep, luscious kiss...
Vetiver Dance is Andy's seventh fragrance.

Review:

The fragrance was created around a vetiver from Java.
It starts with a fresh/green/citrusy opening, with clary sage, black pepper and grapefruit.
On my skin, the peppery note is very intense and diffuse and it blends very well with the clary sage and grapefruit. This last note is weak on my skin. Probably because I tend to have a very dry type of skin. On my husband, my "lab rat" for research on male fragrances, the grapefruit is more intense, the opening on his is more citrusy. It lasts longer.
The fresh sensation gives place to a flowery note of rose. A very velvety rose. Delicate, not feminine.
It reminds me one of the fragrances of Le Labo, that offers rose for men (in concept).
But Andy's rose is different for sure.
I smell a woody note surrounding the bouquet, as it I would smell dried rose petals in a drawer made of wood.
No, better thought pop out: I think of a lodge in Switzerland.
A cozy sensation approaches me. I am in a sky lodge, it is snowing and I feel the whiff of a rose bouquet displayed on my coffee table.
The vetiver note is always present, blending homogeneously, constantly with harmony.
The humidity is not there. It is not a humid dirt note. His vetiver is striking beautiful, well-balanced. totally different side of vetiver.
The scent on my skin is rich, creamy, rosy and dry.
The tonka melts down so well that I don't have that gourmet effect, that I am a little bit tired of. It gives me the creamy soft velvety effect. I love it.
After a while the woody notes become more distinguished. I smell clearly the cedar note.
My husband smelled cardamom, but I cannot say I did.
Maybe a pinch of coriander? But very subtle.
On my skin I feel that there is more to a masculine effect.
I feel that this is not what I need right now.
On my husband...
Well, it did make him smell really sexy. It is a very sensual fragrance indeed. But not loud. It requires more intimacy. One feels the urge to come closer and smell the skin deeper.
It brought my nose close to his neck all they long.
It is for a man that knows what he has to offer. He doesn't need to show off to catch the ladies' attention. He is masculine, he is elegant. He has style.
He knows how to treat a lady.
So thank you Andy, again.
Thank you for bringing beauty to niche perfumes.
Thank you for giving both my husband and I a whiff of romance.
If I would have a few words to describe the fragrance I would say HARMONY, ELEGANCE, SENSUAL.

Vetiver Dance by Tauer Perfumes - available this month in EDT - 50ml.

Do you remeber when Marilyn Moroe said she was going to bed naked, wearing nothing more than a few drops of Chanel N°5? I received this week an e-mail from Perfume Bloggers with this Photo. Will Chalker, the British top model, completely naked.Than I wonder if after taking out the jeans and all the chains, does he go to bed wearing nothing more than a few drops of Black XS by Paco Rabanne?

Fragrance Bar with Annick Goutal/Fragrance Bar com Annick Goutal muito +Q Perfeito!!!

Last Thursday,Oct.18th, I organized the first Fragrance Bar of +Q Perfume for a small select group of women.
For non-Portuguese speakers, mais que perfume means "more than just perfume". And to prouve that this site/blog will not just review scents, this is just the beggining!
We started our journey with a preview of Renata Vicintin's summer collection. For those abroad, Renata is a young Brazilian fashion designer who owns her own brand. She designs beach wear and accessories.
So we stopped by her studio and she received us with a huge smile and a nice cocktail party. The clothes and the bikinis are very well structured. She also had shoes, bags and bijoux.
Minggling around...after a few glasses of fine Champagne we chatted and the ladies got to know each other.
We left Renata's studio at lunch time and the next stop was a surprise.
We arrived at Casa Mauro Freire in Jardins (fancy neighborhood in São Paulo).
Mauro Freire is a hair stylist who is famous for his work with celebrities and his skills with razor blades.
He has a beautiful salon in a huge house that became a space for relaxing and enterteining. The 1200m2 space is devided into 3 floors. On the first floor he has private rooms for celebs, a huge shop space with fashion, design and even a small descrete sex shop. All brands belong to his friends and we could see that Mauro has a fine taste and vision. On the second floor is where he cuts hair. The place is modern, chic and it is a dream- come-true to all interior designers. I explain: there is a fine mix with modernity and furniture from the 50's. Famous chairs and sofas, arranged in a beautiful stilish way. The art, drawings, sculptures are very carefully chosen by Mauro and you feel that you could stay hours checking out these details. The staff is amazingly professional. Young really cool people, like Mauro himself.
Last floor was our destiny. A cozy place that where you find a bar/restaurant.
There we gathered for lunch and surprises.
My friend Oswaldo Pepe, a very successful PR, offered all of us a gift: he travelled around Minas Gerais (a Brazilian State), in a 2.200km journey in the search for art. During the trip he took many photos, met lots of people and kept a diary that became a book. So he gave all of us a signed copy of this limited edition, with a small piece of art from one of Inhotim Cultural Institute. Really fantastic!!!
The lunch was also something special - the food at Mauro's is a real treat. Chicken curry, risottos, beautiful salads...wine, chocolate cakes and delicious desserts.
After coffee came my surprise: I offered all the girls a sample of Annick Goutal's Petite Chérie and Eau d'Hadrien.
We all tried the scents and than I talked about the perfumer and her work.
I guess I chose Annick Goutal because of her life style, her achievement and excellency. My group had lawyers, architects, web designers, editors, a TV show hostess. A group of women who can be inspired by Annick Goutal, and can feel the conection of their own success and their own lifestyle, with this brilliant perfumer.
I was very happy to see that the ladies were really interested in knowing more about her fragrances, and about her life. And a lucky one even got a small bottle of Eau D'Hadrien. And to wrap the day in fine gold paper - Mauro decided to give 4 haircuts for free!!!!! YES! That was really unexpected, and a very sweet gesture, considering that he is a real star.
So we left the studio, well dressed, well fed, perfumed and with a new hairstyle.
It was amazing to see how these women fell in love for Annick Goutal, and most of all, what amazed me was that, despite the fact that Petite Chérie was a fragrance designed for a young 18 yrs. old girl, is very successful with the older ladies. And despite the fact that the layout of her perfume brand is traditional, classic and romantic, it conquered the heart of our dearest Renata Falzoni. For all of you abroad, Renata Falzoni is the hostess of a ESPM show of what we call radical sports. She is a videoreporter who travels all over the globe on a bike. She is radical, she has a tomboy look, and despite all her extremely muscular body, she is a very sweet woman. She loved Annick Goutal!
I also found out that Mauro and his boyfriend share a bottle of Eau d'Hadrien. I couldn't expect something else....he has style!
So, dear readers, perfume bloggers and friends, this blog is really going to to achieve its goal and bring perfume culture to Brazil. We love to wear perfume. But we are still shy when it comes to reviewing and expressing our opinions.
Participate, comment here, show what you love and you will be invited for the next Perfume Event - Fragrance Bar.
